The Tigertail Asian Film Festival held its inaugural event in 2024, marking a historic milestone as first Asian-focused film festival in the greater Tampa/St Pete metro area. TTAFF is open to all creators and audiences as this event celebrates culture, art, and storytelling. The festival was met with enthusiasm and became a resounding success. Over 300 attendees participated in the first year, enjoying films and cultural experiences from across Asia. The festival was prominently featured in local news, including an article by Click Orlando, which highlighted its innovation and cultural significance. The positive response from the community and media demonstrates the strong demand for this type of event and sets the stage for an even bigger and better festival each coming year. Tian Liu is a visionary filmmaker—producer, cinematographer, and director—with over 15 years of experience in film and video production. As the driving force behind Tigertail Pictures and the Tigertail Asian Film Festival, she brings a pioneering vision to celebrating Asian cinema in the Tampa Bay and St. Pete area.
An award-winning Hollywood cinematographer, Liu is among the few Chinese female filmmakers to reach the top tier of Hollywood. Her career spans hundreds of international awards, three Cannes Film Festival nominations, and collaborations with renowned talents such as Gal Gadot, Coldplay, Jude Law, Kim Basinger, Nicole Kidman, Philippe Rousselot, Dean Cundey, and Tim Burton. She also served as Director of Photography for the acclaimed documentary A Look Through His Lens, featuring some of Hollywood’s most celebrated artists.
Beyond her work in film, Liu is a 2024 Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards Outstanding Leader, winner of the Harvard Business School New Venture Pitch Competition, and recognized among the Top 30 Under 30 Chinese-American entrepreneurs. Her expertise in cinematography, marketing, and public relations fuels her passion for storytelling and for capturing the essence of brands and communities.
As the founder of the Tigertail Asian Film Festival, Tian Liu brings global vision and artistic excellence to Tampa/St. Pete, creating the city’s first Asian-focused film festival. Her mission is to showcase the depth and beauty of Asian cinema while building cultural bridges that inspire understanding and connection across communities.
